LiU Invest is investing 500,000 SEK in Cognible AI Sweden AB, a research-based company that develops AI solutions for process-based industries. The company’s technology aims to secure critical expertise in control room environments and provide operators with better support in complex operational environments.
Cognible is developing an AI-based solution that collects and structures control room operators’ knowledge directly from their work in the control room, thereby building a business-specific knowledge base that makes experience accessible to the entire organization.
– The industry is facing a growing competence gap in critical operational environments. Cognible’s solution addresses a clear need by making operators’ experience accessible and useful within the organization, says Stefan Asplund, Investment Manager at LiU Invest.
The technology is based on multimodal data collection, combining and classifying information from operators and systems according to a research-based method, the Joint Control Framework (JCF). The result is an AI-based decision support system where operators can ask questions and receive context-based answers, like from a digital colleague available around the clock.
Cognible is a spin-off project from Linköping University, based on research in cognitive science, human-computer interaction, and AI-based decision support systems. The company was founded in 2023 by researchers Magnus Bång and Jonas Lundberg, together with doctoral student Gustaf Söderholm.
The project participated in an Entrepreneurs in Residence program in 2024, which led to entrepreneur and SEB Innovation Scholar Axel Larsson joining the team. During a Catalyst project in 2025, entrepreneur Owen Holmström also joined as a mentor.
– With the investment from LiU Invest, Cognible is now taking the next step in the commercialization of its technology and the development of AI support for industrial control rooms, says Axel Larsson, CEO of the company.
